Mode Conditioning Fiber Optic Patch Cords

Mode Conditioning Patch Cords are used to connect multimode fiber plants that use transceiver modules. They are needed because transceiver modules use a singlemode launch condition even when they are being used with multimode fiber. These cables are easily installed without any additional fiber optic equipment. When the transmit signal is launched down the center of the core of the multimode fiber it will cause multiple signals to be generated and cause errors. When these multiple signals reach the receiver at the other end of the cable, the receiver becomes confused and cannot read the signal correctly. The mode conditioning cord eliminates the multiple signals. It allows the singlemode launch to be offset from the center of the multimode fiber so that the signal launch is closer to a multimode launch condition. It should be noted that an MC cord should be used in pairs at each end of the connection.
