The MPO or Multi-fiber Push On fiber optic connector is a multiple fiber connector that can contain from 4 -72 optical fibers. The MPO/MTP is designed to be used in conjunction with Ribbon or Micro-Distribution fiber cables to reduce connector and cable footprints. Most commonly used in 12 and 24 fiber combinations this connector replaces multiple single connector installations reducing valuable rack and equipment space in your network closet. MPO/MTP connectors are also used for multilane 40 and 100 Gbps networks where 12 and 24 fibers are needed. MTP is an MPO style connector manufactured by UsConec and the connector is so common that MPO and MTP terminology is used interchangeably.
